24 weeks!

Had an appointment with the midwife this morning. Supposedly I've gained 9 lbs since the last visit 4 weeks ago, but I think they forgot to record a weight in the middle because otherwise I would have only gained 4 lbs at 20 weeks. Anyway, total of 13 lbs at this point. I was a little embarrassed though because the nurse took me to another scale just to make sure. I guess I shouldn't be surprised since this past week I ate a large bag of cheez doodles in less then 24 hours, and most of a package of oreos in the matter of a few days. Jack is so good to me, especially when it comes to satisfying my cravings. He stopped on his way home to get me sushi and cheez doodles. He ran into our pastor while he was there who asked how I was doing to which Jack replied "well, I'm here picking up sushi and cheez doodles... specifically Wise brand". Oh boy. :) The cashier looked at him oddly, and he explained he was on a pregnancy craving run. Thanks babe!

We definitely have a wigglemunch! When she was listening to the heart he kept kicking so it sounded like "woosh woosh bam woosh woosh woosh bam." She went over the results of the ultrasound, and they still didn't get a lot of what they were looking for at the 21 week ultrasound since he's so squirmy, but they'll wait for their routine 30 week ultrasound to try to see the rest.

I get to do the glucose test in 3 weeks... mmmm. I hope my oreo levels have normalized by then.

Also got another bag of maternity clothes and 2 more bags of baby clothes from Aubrey this week - thank you so much! :) Among the baby clothes were 4 Yankee onesies... we're so excited!!!

Fathers Day

We had a nice Fathers Day yesterday. My parents and my sister Beth and her gang came over for a cookout/eat-in lunch. My sister Ginger stopped by with her gang to say hello. We had some good family time which tired us all out for the afternoon! I'm sure everyone else took naps when they got home... somehow I got through the rest of the day without one!

I had gotten Jack a Fathers Day present a few weeks ago and just couldn't wait to give it to him. I may have lasted a day after I bought it but I seem to remember it was only a few hours. I got him a little Transformers tackle box for when Father and Son go fishing someday. Jack's family sent down a package with a kids pirate book and a t-shirt for him.

Now I'm going to take a moment to be sappy. I just want to profess my gratitude for my amazing husband and father-to-be. He is such a hard worker, pulling extra freelance work which has enabled me to be comfortable at home, and pull in unsteady income. He never hesitates to pick up crazy food for me on the way home from work, or even run back out when he's home. I love seeing him get excited about baby boy. He is so good to me and will be so good to our little boy! I am so blessed to be married to someone I have so much in common with too! We laugh at the same silly things, have fun hanging out with people, or just bumming on the couch watching the latest TV show that we're obsessed with.

Thank you Jesus for Jack and baby boy!!

23 weeks!

...and 17 to go! Baby boy's kicks are getting stronger, yet they are still cute. I'm a little nervous that if I can feel it all this well now and I have 4 months to go, what's it going to feel like closer to the end? It's all fun now though. He and Jack had a high-five contest the other night which was very entertaining. As for cravings, it's pretty much anything I see on TV. Even cartoon meatloaf gave me a craving. I was simultaneously craving a hearty loaf of bread, sushi, meatloaf and cake. Jack sympathized and said he'd run out for something, but I had to pick one thing. He ended up running out for a loaf of artisan bread for me and I gobbled up half of it that night. MMmmmmmmmm.

Well, I think that's about all there is to report since last week!

22 weeks!

What's new, hmmm. No crazy cravings in the past week, but I did buy another box of cake mix! I just caught my 3rd cold of the pregnancy so far and I'm hesitant to take anything besides Vitamin C, so I've been toughing it out. I'm not sure if it's the cold, or just the stage I'm at but I've started to run out of breath a lot easier. Even just a jog up the stairs when I forget something leaves me pretty winded! I need to pace myself... 18 weeks to go!

I've started splurging on maternity clothes. I hardly ever buy clothes for myself so I consider it a splurge even though it's a necessity since I only have one pair of pants that fit now! One splurge item was a bathing suit though. I wasn't really comfortable wearing a bikini with my gut hanging out so I got a tankini that covers it all! Now I just need to participate in activities that require a bathing suit! :) Thankfully I just got a lot of maternity clothes from my good friend Aubrey yesterday, and also a bag full of baby boy clothes!

The cats are definitely preparing me for cleaning up after a baby. There has been no shortage of vomit, #1's and #2's around the house to clean up the last few weeks. Haven't caught the perp in action so I'm not sure which one to blame. I'm not sure why they've been doing this, but maybe they sense big changes on the horizon, or they're mad we've been shutting them out of our room. In the meantime we started shutting them in the laundry room/office area last night. We don't have a door though- when we gutted the basement we took out the door that would shut them in there because it blocked off a good portion of the room. So last weekend there was a neighborhood garage sale and we acquired 2 baby gates that Jack was SO excited to try out on the cats. Mostly to see if our agile Bella would be able to figure out a way over - she didn't. They spent the night down there, and didn't bug us during the night and nothing to clean up on the furniture in the morning!

Probably the biggest news in the last week is that I've ever so slightly started to feel kicks from the outside! Jack got to feel it one evening too, and that just made my night. It's the first time something from the pregnancy has caused me to tear up. It's small (for now) and just feels like a twitch, but I know it's not a twitch! He definitely takes after Daddy though, he was kicking up a storm while I was playing video games last night!!

21 weeks!

Not too much has changed since my last post on Monday, but I'll keep with the tradition of posting each new week. Well, blueberries finally went on sale so I gobbled up a pint on Monday. Probably a better binge than my 1/4 cake on Saturday.

Baby boy had been pretty chill lately, but his movements are getting stronger and today he actually had a kick that moved the laptop resting on my belly!

We're starting to think about registries. I still feel like it's a little early, but I know we've at least decided on the Cotton Tale Pirates Cove decor for the nursery. I'm not sure when to start shopping for nursery furniture, but we've still got 4ish months left so I'm not too pressed right now. Wow, all of these considerations add a whole new level of reality to it all! I'm so excited!

Baby boy is about 10.5 inches now, about the length of a carrot!

Another ultrasound

Since baby boy was so wiggly at the 18 week ultrasound they scheduled another one this morning to get the rest of the measurements they couldn't get before. We didn't have our usual tech Jennifer, but the one we had today was quick and efficient. She didn't get as good a profile shot as Jennifer but she got a couple face shots and even focused the scanner well enough for us to see him in action moving his mouth with his hands up over his face! Here are a couple of the souvenir photos we got today.

We already knew it was a boy from our last appointment, but she gave us a little extra reassurance today!

Aside from the ultrasound news, I am shocked and amazed at how God has brought me a baby buddy, well more than one but this one in particular. It started with Jack having a great time getting to know Sam at the men's retreat back in February. We found out the day after he got back that we were having a baby. It must have been right around the same time that Sam and Christie found out they were having their second child. We hung out with them a couple times, without knowing each others' news. Around 14 weeks both our news came out and we realized our due dates were 2 days apart! Me on Oct 14, and Christie on Oct 16. I finally got to catch up with her some more in church yesterday and we're both having boys and found out we've both been going to the same practice, seeing the same midwives, going to the same ultrasound facility, and we'll be delivering at the same hospital! Wouldn't it be amazing if we were there the same time??

I am slightly ashamed but mostly amused to admit this last item - I had been craving vanilla cupcakes with chocolate frosting for a while now. Didn't necessarily have to be in cupcake form, so after about a month I finally caved and bought the ingredients (box mix and tub of frosting). I made it in a 13x9 pan on Saturday while Jack was out at the movies with the guys. I started with a slightly large piece, but it was so light and fluffy that I wolfed it down in about 90 seconds. This did not seem like a fair ending to a one month craving to I went back and just finished the wedge, totaling about 1/4 of the cake including the first piece. I was very satisfied after that and fortunately didn't feel sick. When Jack came home he saw the evidence but thought I had company so asked who I hung out with. I hung my head with a sheepish grin and said "no one". We had a good laugh over it. I think from now on I'll heed the advice of my sister and just cave to cravings when I have them. She once pushed off a peanut M&M craving and ended up indulging in a 1 pound bag in one sitting, only to throw it all up right after the last M&M. Hm, writing this has put me in the mood for another slice... hopefully I can restrain myself from eating another 1/4 of the cake!
